Spring 2018

In this spring semester, I guess one can say I took one course I really wanted to take and one that I was dreading because I did not know what to expect. I took my first fiction writing course as a graduate student, so that was really excited. The Modern American Literature course was one where I did not know what to expect considering I did not know the professor or what to expect from this course. In this semester, I took two courses: Fiction Writing Workshop and Modern American Literature.

Fiction Writing Workshop

This course was like previous fiction writing courses that I took as an undergraduate. This course allowed me to write several short stories: “Solace,” “Eidolon,” and “Immersion,” all of which were published in the university’s English department literary magazine. This course also has given me direction for furthering the three stories and compile a collection of short stories that I can publish later on.

Modern American Literature

This course was one that was challenging to everyone taking it. This course was work-heavy and reading-heavy. This might possibly be the hardest course I have taken. This class challenged the graduate students to be able to lead a class discussion for thirty minutes, which appeared hard to those with no previous teaching experience. However this  course did help those who don’t have that experience to get an idea of how they can manage time when running a classroom and gave them some hands-on experience in leading a class for a short period of time so they can know what to expect.
