Good Girls

Season Review:★★★ / ★★★★★

Season: 1

Maturity Rating: TV-14

Creator: Jenna Bans

Cast: Christina Hendricks Retta, Mae Wittman, Matthew Lillard, Reno Wilson, Manny Montana, Lidya Jewett, Isaiah Stannard, James Lesure, David Hornsby, Zach Gilford

Genre: Crime TV Dramas / TV Dramas / TV Comedies

This is a: witty / irreverent

My Two Cents:

I had a lot of mixed feeling about this show’s season. I did not know whether to get being the characters or not. Considering the three main protagonists had both good and bad qualities, I could not fully get behind them, but I could also not be entirely against them. I think that is the part of the series that I enjoyed. The characters were not forced into being either really good, like unrealistically good. Nor where they made out to be extreme villains. Those good and bad qualities made them more realistic to me. It seemed like three people struggling to make ends meet and being forced into resorting to some desperate measures. That didn’t seem too far-fetched, so the show sustained my attention throughout. I do wonder if the second season will be good enough to hold my attention as this first season did. I don’t know what would have to happen in the second season for me to continue to stay glued to this season, but it would have to provide another major driving force as did this first season.

Virgin River

Season Review:★★★ / ★★★★★

Maturity Rating: TV-14

Creator: Sue Tenney

Cast: Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Tim Matheson, Annette O’Toole, Colin Lawrence, Jenny Cooper, Lauren Hammersley

Genre: Romantic TV Drama / TV Shows based on books / TV Dramas

This is a: heartfelt / emotional show

My Two Cents:

I will admit that I did not know if I was going to like this show when I first saw the preview. I had my hesitations in watching this show. However, I am always drawn to a nice scenery and setting when watching a show. I always enjoy envisioning the setting and what life would be like in that setting. I think that is the main aspect of the show that drew me in. I was not entirely drawn in by the story or the characters. I think the aspect of this series that sustained my attention and kept me watching more was the setting. I was not entirely drawn to any of the characters in the show or any of the different subplots there were going on. That aspect of the story just did not work for me. I believe if there would be a second season, I would much more prefer a better storyline. I am not one for dramas, but I did need more of a holistic plot going on. Some parts just seemed random to me, and I questioned how that part of the series had anything to do with the overall story that was being portrayed.

Mr. Iglesias

Season Review:★★★★ / ★★★★★

Season: 1

Audience: TV-14

Creator: Kevin Hench

Cast: Gabriel Iglesias, Sherri Shepherd, Jacob Vargas, Maggie Geha, Richard Gant, Cree Cicchino, Fabrizio Guido, Oscar Nuñez

Genre: Sitcoms / TV Comeides

This is a: feel-good / goofy show

My Two Cents:

I don’t know about you, but I thoroughly enjoyed this show. There were so many good moments in the show. Maybe I’m impartial since I do enjoy watching Gabriel Iglesias’s comedy. Seeing him in this show was something I really enjoyed when the show came out, and I ended up binge watching the show in one day. After that, I watched the show over and over for a good three or four week. I still go back to this show anytime I want a good laugh on my lunch break. What really helps about this show is that each episode is fairly short, so it’s perfect for watching an episode in a quick break from work or study break. I also enjoyed that the show focused on a group of struggle students and shedded some light on the difficulties and struggles students may face. There was not a whole lot of emphasis on it, but it was nice to see a show where the students that are portrayed are not depicted to be nice, feel-good characters, such as the ones Disney likes to portray. The characters in the show appeared more genuine and a more realistic and relatable. I always enjoy shows that have characters that one can relate to, and this show definitely had that aspect.
